Strong. Sensitive. Resilient. These are some of the words that describe the women that I know. What these women also have in common is the desire for vitality, unlimited energy, and stamina. These women also want to go through each phase of their life feeling strong and alive. What many women do not realize is that nutrition and environment have a tremendous impact on the state of their health as they age. Our bodies are daily being inundated with toxins and free radicals – many of which we are not even aware of or unable to control. From air fresheners, perfumes make up, plastics – there is an overabundance of environmental exposures that can have a detrimental effect on our bodies.
So, what is a woman to do? Educate yourself about using environmentally safe and human safe products are needed. For example, try replacing your fabric softener with white vinegar. It is all natural, keeps static cling away, and softens clothes (and no, your clothes will not smell like vinegar!)
A great resource is the Environmental Working Group, who put out the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen lists each year. There is a plethora of information on this website that I encourage you to use: www.ewg.org Also, consider their free app called “Healthy Living.” With this app, you can scan in a bar code and find out just how safe your potential purchase is.
One more thing, go to You-tube and watch “10 Americans” by Ken Cook, the president of EWG. I recommend each of my patients to watch this 20-minute video.
